These are a couple images and films that came to mind after reading the extracts from The Lost World, my first couple concept images would get visual inspiration from this board.

The Lost World Chapter 8 and 12

The Lost world is very descriptive and I find that highlighting sections where the environment is described makes it easier to go back into and create images the book describes. These are the pages I'll be working from:

Chapter 8

Chapter 12

Cinematic Spaces

...So for the first Project on Cinematic Spaces, the aim is to create a series of conceptual images based on certain books. I'll be working on The Lost World (1912) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, most images will be taken from the content in Chapter 8 and 12.

The book is set in a jungle/forest where extinct animals still survive, it describes large vistas as the 6 characters in the book explore the unknown. Before I start creating images for this world I've decided to look to films for inspiration, the films I'll be looking at are:

  • The film adaption of the Lost world, conveniently named "The Lost World"
  • The Lost World Jurassic Park, which is inspired by the book
  • King Kong which isn't based on the Lost world but has a world similar to that of the book

At the moment I'm just trying to gather as much information from the book and take in as much inspiration from films which do a similar things or take inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Book "The Lost World"

Finalized concepts

I picked 3 Images and fully developed them, One from each subject; Life from, Machine, and Structure

I carried on with more developmental drawings to give myself a feel for the image I was drawing

I contemplated changing the costume of the robot I originally drew, into a British Redcoat costume

I also looked at other gun designs to see which one I was more comfortable with

I experimented a little bit with the alien, and gave him a body of a human dwarf

The Monkey, inside the aliens head was also fully realized in different angles like I did with the alien

I decided to remove the gun from the robots character completely

The lamp which I presented as turnaround image, didn't get any further developmental drawings because I felt that there wasn't more to the lamp, unlike the other two images.
