Secret Lair - Final Concept Art

 I went back to my final image one last time to make some changes before I could completely focus on making it 3D...

Final Concept Art.

I decided to settle on this image for a final piece, though it doesn't have much going on inside it...I plan to thumbnail more objects, like weapon stands or maybe training dummies to show more of the Kung- Fu influence, which I could later add to to the CG Scene

My Final Image has the statue on a stand in what seems to be an empty room, when i take the scene to 3D, I plan to  make a matte painting of other things my character stole to show more of the thief influence

Final Character Bible/Profile

Secret Lair - Hero prop Othographic

This is what I have so far for my Hero Prop, more work needs to be done on it to have show simplistic look I'm looking for...I like the fact it of not including a face but as the main features are for this type of statue are hair and facial hair, I'm still deciding whether to give it a face or not...

another thing i need to adress; I want the Prop (statue) to be instantly recognized as a Chinese solider so I'm currently think of colour schemes and how it can make it stand out in my scene, all though Terracotta is "clay like" when it comes to appearance and texture I thought I could still be free with the statue as the Lair doesn't  exist in reality and the soldiers weren't discovered until the 1970's

Secret Lair OGR

Hero Prop Research

Character Prop Research

Updated*  17/11/2012

The Terracotta Warrior Statues is significant in Chinese history and though my character starts stealing things for a challenge there wasn't anything significant he challenged himself to steal, the Scribd document above talks about the Terracotta Warrior he steals, but there isn't a specific reason why he steals them, apart from the fact that it's a challenge to obtain....I've adjusted my Character Profile and changed the reason why Tobias has the prop he has;

Tobias starts out as an ignorant kid, only wanting to get better and better at his trade, when he leaves the Temple he starts to steal and as he was never caught stealing, he always set a challenge for himself and stole anything which was a challenge to him. After his training with the mythical creatures he becomes wiser and although he still steals, he has a reason for doing this;  it's the same reason he is helping with the peasant revolt, he treasures his country and as he isn't aware of any real family members he see China as everything to him, so he goes out to obtain objects which are very important in the history of China to protect them and make them last so the world can one day see the legacy left by china,  and he was able to recover one of the Terracotta Warriors.

Note. In this fictional version of China, China is about to make the transition from the Ming dynasty to the Qing dynasty, china is in trouble and the people are in desperate need of change, Tobias Rai and his clan of mythical monkeys help train Li Zicheng's men before they go into battle and the Terracotta Warriors have been discovered, everyone is well aware of them and they are a pride of China.

Hand drawn animation

Secret Lair - Thumbnails

These are my initial thumbnails for my secret lair of the Kung-Fu thief, I based my characters Lair on Chinese interior and the idea of having a building structure underground in a cave like environment. For these thumbnails, I started to see how I could have  an interior heavily inspired by Chinese buildings and have the cave structure visible enough to show it's underground
